At our first meeting, Binda proposed the idea of an alternating thread of creative works, a series of artifacts each made in response to the last.

I loved Binda’s suggestion of these alternating creative artifacts, handed back and forth as a new set of provocations. I loved the helix idea. I loved the word “Helices.”

I went to YouTube and searched “helix music.” I didn’t know what I was looking for, and I didn’t know what I would find.

Turns out, there’s a channel called “Helix Music.” Their featured track was entitled “Heuse — Celestial”:

“That’s cool enough to do something with,” I thought, so I did something with it.

I knew Binda would be creating some beautiful visual things, and I wanted to have something to present at our first Cross besides just the thumb drive with my recording on it. I started casting around for something to make.

Hanging on my wall was an artifact from Binda’s last birthday party — a party favor from her husband, Richard (an innovative artist in his own right), who had collaged and painted a dozen different “B” badges/placards (each about 8×18 inches). I spray-painted a golden helix curving through the B on the front, and pasted my lyrics on the back.
