stool for a vampire standup comedian

provocation

At our first meeting, Jenny talked about discovering a vampire comedian inside herself, wanting to emerge

response

Binda

The moment Jenny did her vampire standup routine, I started getting all sorts of images that I needed to draw — of that vampire, of Midway — sketches, really. And then I was thinking about what a standup does. They give funny words and when the people laugh, what are they giving back to the vampire? Maybe they’re giving some of their life blood. And I imagined a cloud filling up of all of that life blood. And then I wondered, Okay, but what happens if you look inside that cloud — what would it look like? And so I drew that.

The laugh blood cloud would also feed the Joke Tank, and it would be a positive feedback loop of some kind.

I also found myself sketching out some of the parameters of the project that we’d discussed. I wanted to have a clear working agreement. Over the course of Movement 1, we texted and emailed and called and came up with the following agreement:

• The work created is in response to what the other brought to share from the previous movement

• We will continue this for 12 movements each — totaling 24 (number of books in the Odyssey. Ulysses/helices = 2 or more helixes)
